Bloody Block Heater Cord!

My mom asked me to get the block heater cord out from underneath the hood and put it someplace she can get at it, sounds easy right? Nah.

First off it is -20C which is like -3534F or something like that. So I am out in the garage laying on the pavement just trying to find the dammed thing. The main light over the front of the garage also now isn't working so I have to use a small flashlight to try and search around. It is a pretty new truck so I assumed it had not been taken out yet. So after about 20 minutes of looking at all the wires trying to find the right one I head inside and Google were the hell this thing would be.

After looking at a few diagrams it appears to be on the left side of the motor underneath the battery. I fiddle around in there with little to no feeling in my hands (cut my finger and had no idea I did til after) until I find what seems to be the right cord. I wiggle it loose until I see the end that had been tucked into the frame rail (picture), THANKS GM! As I am wiggling a nice amount of dirt and road salt fall into my face and eyes which only heightens the mood.

So I run the cord out to one of the tow hooks and zip tie it on using blue zip ties (picture). My mother then says that she wants black ones so I redo the whole zip-tying process and then think I am done. I plug it in to check if I can hear the block heater kick in and hear nothing. GRRRRREAT! After about 15 minutes of searching around underneath to possibly find the issue I see a small dirt covered tag that says only works in -20C or colder.

So now I am cold, defeated, and bleeding. Whats worse is that I then missed the Monday Night Football kick-off.

All to get out the block heater cord.
